Partnering Worship Teams & Mission Teams to bring Worship To The World! THE POWER OF PRAISE … have you experienced it? Praising and worshipping the Lord doesn’t simply make us feel better; it is the most powerful thing, we as Christians can do because God inhabits the praises of His people (Ps. 22:3). It is His presence in our praise that gives us the power to battle our discouragements, weaknesses, and spiritual enemies. Just as the children of Israel saw God defeat their enemies by inhabiting their songs of praise (2 Chron. 20), so can modern day believers see Him move in power when they are ushered into His presence. When God is worshipped, He is lifted up in all His power and glory, evil is defeated, and battles are won . . .
. . . and yet, according to mission organizations, praise and worship is the very element that is missing in the work of reaching people for Christ. This need placed a burden on the hearts of worship leaders, Chris and Diane Machen, to create a new ministry that would connect missions and worship. The Machens believe that God has called them to bring WORSHIP TO THE WORLD by partnering worship teams from local churches and colleges with short-term mission trips to places in America and around the world. Having had the privilege of leading worship as a part of mission trips to Colombia, Romania, Guatemala, Cyprus, Germany, Spain, Korea and Mongolia, the Machens have experienced first-hand what God can do through a ministry like this. WORSHIP TO THE WORLD is receiving enthusiastic responses from worship ministers and mission organizations alike, as they see how worship teams can affect the mission field and be affected by their involvement in missions as well.
HOW THE WORSHIP TEAMS WILL AFFECT THE MISSION EFFORT: Spiritual preparation: Spiritual preparation for the outreach teams is essential. In the field, the element of worship encourages and energizes the team, preparing them for the work of evangelism. When they are refreshed and more aware of God’s presence, they will be more effective workers for the Kingdom. Experiencing the presence of God is vital. Worship is also a powerful “weapon” in the spiritual warfare that inevitably takes place when sharing the Gospel of Christ. Just as Jehoshaphat (in 2Chron. 20) set the singers in front of the army of Judah to sing the praise of God, which resulted in the defeat of their enemies, praise goes before these outreach teams to prepare God’s current day army for battle. Drawing crowds for evangelistic outreaches: Public worship is an incredibly effective tool for evangelism. Given the right environment, worship teams can draw attention to the mission team for the purpose of sharing the Gospel and helping establish contacts for an existing church or building a new church. Indeed, it gives the worship team itself the opportunity for sharing the Gospel personally through singing and speaking. Training and teaching new worship leaders: The worship teams from WORSHIP TO THE WORLD will be trained and prepared ahead of time to help new worship leaders in the field and in new churches lead worship more powerfully and effectively. They will teach such things as the Biblical foundation for worship, worship planning, playing keyboards and guitars, and reading chord charts. The training of indigenous worship leaders will also provide more people in leadership for the new churches. Providing instruments for new churches: One of the exciting elements of WORSHIP TO THE WORLD is the ministry of buying keyboards and guitars, using them on the mission trip, and then giving them as gifts to the new churches on the field. These instruments are a tangible expression of love to these needy churches. Serving alongside the mission team in evangelistic outreach: In addition to worship leading and training, the worship team will serve right alongside the mission team in the evangelistic outreach. Whether it’s going door-to-door, hut-to-hut, or witnessing on the street, the worship team will be part of mission team in sharing the love of Christ HOW THE MISSION EFFORT WILL AFFECT THE WORSHIP TEAMS: Chris and Diane, and many other musicians who have traveled with them, have found the experience of leading worship on short-term mission trips to be life-changing. Getting off the stage and in the field helps worship leaders understand the greater purpose of the musical gifts the Lord has given them. Most worship leaders would agree that worship can too easily become performance. Mission field experiences provide situations for the musicians on the worship team to develop more as “servants” and less as “stars” by providing them opportunities to lead worship in settings that are conducive to creating humility and a servant’s heart. We have discovered that these worship leaders then return to their home churches with renewed personal worship and a passion to lead others to Christ. Their churches are changed as a result. As WORSHIP TO THE WORLD we pray that “putting worship leaders in the heart of the mission field will also put the mission field in the hearts of worship leaders.”
HOW THE WORSHIP AND MISSION EFFORT WILL AFFECT THE WORLD: One day, when we are in heaven, there will no longer be preaching or teaching, but we will worship around the throne of God forever. That’s what WORSHIP TO THE WORLD is – producing and preparing worshippers for eternity. Won’t you help us take “worship to the world?!”
Let the peoples praise you, O God; let all the peoples praise you! Let the nations be glad and sing for joy!
